The State of the Cookie: A Delicious Debate

Round one was posted on Slate today; round two will be up tomorrow.  When you get to the debate, you’ll be able to read Sara’s letter, then click on the number 2 to get to David’s and the number 3 to get to mine.

I’d love to hear your take on the questions that are raised.  What defines a cookie for you?  What does the perfect cookie look like?  What size is it?  What’s its texture?  What makes a cookie American?

While it’s the season to bake cookies, it’s the perfect season to think about them, too.  I loved the questions that Sara and David raised and I loved pondering them.  For all the cookies I’ve created, baked and eaten, I don’t think I’d ever stopped to define the little sweet.  Okay, I just gave away one of my prejudices — I like my cookies small.  Do you?

Let me know what you think after you’ve read round-one of our debate.
