I know, I couldn’t believe it either. McCafe. As in McDonald’s. And those macarons? According to the salesperson, they were made for McCafe by Laduree! (I had read that Laduree was making macarons for McDonald’s over the Christmas holidays, so my guess is that the reception was good and the partnership continues.)
The critique? The macarons were really good; the cheesecake had nice texture, but it was just a tad too sweet and a little too lemony; the lemon tart was too puddingish for me, but I’m impossible when it comes to lemon tarts (having been spoiled by Pierre Herme’s lemon cream); the cupcake was fine; and the chocolate cookie was more satisfying than I would have expected.
All in all, I don’t think any of the grand patisseries have to worry about McCafe … but Starbuck’s might have to up their game in this town.
