Cookbooks, Apps + The New York Times

I adore cookbooks.  Have for decades.  Assume I always will.  And I adore writing cookbooks.  I hope they never become obsolete.  Ever.

But I like apps — certain apps — too.  And I loved working on my own app.  I think there’s an important place for apps and I think that place is right next to cookbooks.  I don’t think we need recipes apps.  Cookbooks have great recipes and there are millions of recipes available on the web.  But the right app can stretch the magic of a cookbook.  It can add value to a cookbook.  It can provide instruction and clarification and even spark creativity in ways that are different from what a cookbook can do.

In the best of all possible worlds, cookbooks and apps would live together in perfect harmony.
