I think of this as the kitchen journal I meant to keep, but never did. It’s a record of my thirty-some-odd years of home baking, a diary of the recipes I love best and make over and over again for family and friends, for bake sales and celebrations both grand and intimate. It’s a big book – there are about 300 recipes – with scope: there are recipes for sweets to nibble at breakfast all the way through to great things to snack on late at night. And, with only a handful of exceptions, it’s a collection of recipes that even new bakers can be successful with.
I know this is true, because this is the book that inspired the creation of the online baking group: Tuesdays with Dorie. The group, which started in 2007 is still going strong and always welcoming new members — there are members baking from all of my books! I’ve watched with joy as working along with TwD made ace bakers out of so many people who were brownies-from-a-box bakers before joining the merry band.
