A few random pictures from the past week ...
Hello Kitty comes to Laduree and the crowds go wild! I'm not a Hello Kitty fan, but even I couldn't resist the draw of the adorable.
While the fashion look of the moment is down jackets, mufflers and mittens, it's still officially spring and very officially asparagus season. This dish, a triumph, was the first of five on Septime's tasting menu last week. It's a pair of asparagus, topped with lard de Colonnata, often called lardo and once described to me as white prosciutto, crispy toasted bread crumbs, parsley and shallot vinaigrette.
When was the last time you had a souffle? I don't usually order them in restaurants -- although I love to make them at home -- but a friend told me that I had to finish my meal at Le Pantruche with their Grand Marnier souffle and she was right. It was beautifully made, perfectly cooked and super served with caramel sauce.
And more ...
Even if you don't need wonderful housewares, quirky stationery, fabulous handmade jewelry, carefully curated t-shirts or a watering can, you do need to go to Merci, if only to walk through this wonderful courtyard and then to ogle the loft space. It's so well designed that you forget how meticulously designed it is.
And finally ...
A trip to Monoprix brings you face-to-face with David Guetta, who, in addition to a gazillion hit songs, can now boast a special edition Coke bottle. If you're a fan, this may be the easiest way to get your hands on the star.
Guetta's in good company. Before Coke bottled him, they went Light for Karl Lagerfeld. Ah, Paris.

yes, it may be terribly chilly--gross out, even. But thank heavens for asparagus & strawberry season. Best time of year to be in France, if you ask me, regardless of the weather !

Caroline, you're absolutely right. What's a chill wind, if it brings asparagus and strawberries :)

My husband and I were in Paris in June 2008. We still talk about the strawberries we got from the market. They were almost buttery! I feel a homesickness for Paris even though I've only been there twice :) I just love it!

Ruth, Paris + Spring = Magic. As a kid, I used to get Spring Fever; today I get Paris fever.

Springtime in Paris has been wonderful, and a little chilly. I was lucky enough to try the asparagus dish as well...it was delicious! I was so delighted to see you walk into Septime, and I knew that we had chosen the right restaurant for our first lunch in Paris. The souffle looks fantastic.

Sandy, Paris is fever-inducing in any season. Yes, yes, put Spring in Paris on your list then crossed your fingers that you don't get a week like this one. People are still wearing wool scarves -- not to be stylish, just to try to be warm. Brrr.

Am busy baking and cooking my way through your last two books. When do you anticipate your new book will be published? It's on homey French desserts?
Thank you for your wonderful recipes!

Dorie, you make me want to return to Paris on the next plane! I miss it so much. Waking up late, going to a cafe to sip cappuccino & people watch w/ dark sunglasses... I need to go back!
