The Kid and I have been thinking about opening a cookie store for years. We'd bake cookies and talk about it. We'd eat cookies and talk about it. We'd bake more cookies and eat more cookies and think more and talk more. And, at last, we're doing something: COOKIEBAR! We'll be doing a CookieBar pop-up store and you can read all about it on Time Out's blog: The Feed.
Josh and I will be selling some of our favorite cookies -- of course there'll be World Peace Cookies -- and some new ones, too, from Monday, February 8 until Saturday, February 13. We'll be popping up at the chic hair salon, Mizu, on Park Avenue between 59th and 60th Streets, in New York City. It's just one door up from the famous Sherry-Lehmann wine store, which makes for convenient one-stop Valentine's Day shopping. Anyone for Champagne and cookies?
Seeing the news in print has sent me into a tizzy. I'll write more when my heart isn't beating so fast. In the meantime, if you're in New York, please, please put CookieBar on your calendar and stop by and see us.

Congratulations Dorie & Josh! Congratulations!! Wonderful news! I'm soooo happy for you! I wished I could be in NY that week; I will definitely visit when the new store is up....and waiting patiently for the expansion to the West Coast! Congrats!!

What a great idea! I'm so excited for you. Can't remember the last time I was in midtown but this just might be the perfect excuse.
| January 25, 2010 8:00 PM
Oh Dorie, I wish you could come to my boring part of the country. I'd buy your cookies. All the fun things happen on the coasts. Sigh.

I wish I lived in NY! Won't you consider moving to Southern California?? We have amazing beaches!

Wishing you both an overwhelming success, for this initial exercise, and then the actual store, and then the entire chain of cookie stores!
As a mother, I'm sure the best thing of all is working with the Kid, regardless of what the (ad)venture is! :)
PS. Josh is right, I'm sooo over cupcakes..

How exciting! I'm sure it will be a smashing success. Now, could you entice your son into opening one on the CT shoreline?
| January 26, 2010 10:13 AM
This is sooo exciting, Dorie! I will be there!! You might have to kick me out if I am hanging around eating too many of your cookies!! :) I recently found out that one of my best friend's went to Dalton with your son, so maybe I will bring her along as well!!

Oh this is just the most exciting sweet news to hit 2010 yet! You know just how much I love cookies. And you know just how much I love your baked goods. So this place is way high on my radar! Only... I'll be in NYC a month too late for it. :( But no worries, my parents are in the 'hood and they're already making room in their freezer to stock up for my arrival! :) Lots of good luck and enjoy this exciting time. Bonne chance to you and the Kid!
| January 27, 2010 6:16 PM

This sounds like so much fun. Wish I were in NYC at that time so I could stop by. I've had a dream of "secret breakfasts" on my outdoor patio and I'm hoping that this summer I can finally pull it off.
| January 29, 2010 7:21 PM
How fun! I wish I was close, really do! Good luck Dorie, I'm sure it will be a hit!
| January 29, 2010 9:13 PM

Lovely news. My own kid took over my blog yesterday after making a great meal for us. We never know what they'll do. Best wishes, best wishes. What fun! Smiling for you.

A fantastic idea Dorie, I loved baking cookies with my Mama and grandmothers when I was younger and haven't made them in ages. Since I sadly can't make it to your Cookiebar in New York I'll have to console myself with baking some classic ones like chocolate chip or peanut butter over here in London.
Good luck with the pop-up, looking forward to hearing about it and seeing some snaps from the bar too!
| January 30, 2010 1:36 PM
Oh Dorie, pop up in Las Vegas!!
Congrats! Hope it goes well!
| January 30, 2010 7:00 PM
Brilliant!!! I've long believed the world needs more cookies stores, and can't IMAGINE anyone better to open one. Have a ball!
| February 1, 2010 9:10 AM
I can't wait. I work in Midtown. I'm there.
| February 1, 2010 1:42 PM
All the best for your new adventure!
| February 3, 2010 12:13 AM
I'll see you there! Thanks for the heads up!
| February 3, 2010 4:00 PM
Very excited for this, so much better than getting a box of chocolates for Valentine's Day.
And yes, really like the logo. Maybe one day we can do a little video story together for my food artisan video site!
| February 3, 2010 5:03 PM
Good luck! I made the World Peace cookies for the first time yesterday - AMAZING!
| February 4, 2010 10:40 AM
this should be a first, and next should in Paris, we also have Pop Up stores here (boutiques éphémères) and nothing like your cookies.
Wishing you deserved success,

Congratulations, Dorie!! I wish that I could be in New York to taste your cookies. I met you years ago when I worked at the Hong Kong Tourist Association. I have your copies of "Sweet Times" and "Paris Sweets" and can't wait to try baking the "World Peace Cookies." All the best in the soon to be Year of the Tiger! Warmest wishes, Edith

Oh now I really wish I lived in New York and could stop by. Sounds amazing. I might just make some World Peace cookies of my own to celebrate!
| February 8, 2010 5:05 PM
It was very nice to meet you today, Dorie. All the cookies were really tasty. Because I'm a Japanese, everything in US are way too sweet. Your cookies had perfect amount of sugar, and had very subtle flavor of everything. Like I said to you, all the cookies ideas are American, but they came out as French cookies. I LOVE THEM! I'll try to stop by again before you close the store. Thank you.
| February 9, 2010 2:42 PM
Dorie, it was such a treat to meet you today! (Not to mention the cookies - yum.) I'm in love with the shortbreads, especially the sables. I hope I get a chance to stop by again before the end of the week.
| February 13, 2010 5:39 PM
Dorie, you just converted me from a cookie cynic to a cookie afficionado! I enjoy the sable most, simple and classic, flawlessly done! Thank you for creating these wonders and can't wait to have them again at your real store. Bravo!
| February 13, 2010 8:18 PM
We stopped by today and got five wonderful cookies -- ate two on the way home -- please pop up again soon, because these are SO good. We will need them again ASAP!
